Village Day at Sands Point Preserve

Friends of the Sands Point Preserve announces the 5th Annual Village Day on Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm, raindate: October 7, 2012.

The fall harvest season will be celebrated with outdoor activities for guests of all ages, including a petting zoo - with sheep, llama, frizzle chickens, crested ducks, and a herd of ponies; hayrides around the Great Lawn - perfect for seeing the early fall foliage; pumpkin painting for budding artists; a Green Grocer with wonderful items, including award-winning artisanal cheeses, famous Horman pickles, and Jericho Mills apples and cider. DiMaggio’s delicious pizza and a variety of refreshments will be available. Live music by Howie "Guitar" Smith will play throughout the event!

The Bee Whispering program will also meet during Village Day. The hands-on demonstration covers the biology of honeybees and the complex structure of colonies in their hives. Participants will learn how to set up and maintain bee hives - and harvest fresh honey!

The Preserve's honeybee hives have been busily pollinating the grounds since they were installed in April of 2012 - and Guggenheim Golden Honey will be available for sale for the first time.

Bring your whole family to this beautiful annual tradition at the Sands Point Preserve!
