Free Brass Concert In Port Washington This Month

The concert will feature world premieres of three new compositions.

Don Winston & Friends Brass Recital No. 6 is holding a free concert in Port Washington in June.

The performance will be held at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, located at 12 Franklin Ave., at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17.

  • A new Piece for Tuba-Euphonium Quartet by Mike Forbes
  • A new Piece for Euphonium Duo and Piano by Tom Davoren
  • And a new Opening Fanfare by Pete Meechan

Artists performing include:

· Perhaps the greatest trombone player of all time, Mr. Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic . Mr. Alessi will be ably accompanied on piano by Martha Locker.

· Demondrae Thurman, Euphonium- One of the top euphonium soloists in the country, Demondrae has appeared at all 5 editions of Don Winston & Friends. Demondrae has performed with the New York Philharmonic.

· Mike Forbes, Tuba- Mike makes his Don Winston & Friends debut, performing a work of his own composition. Mike began his career as a tubist with the US Army Band, Pershing’s own, and has served on the music faculties of many universities on the east coast and Midwest. A noted composer, we will be premiering a new tuba quartet composed by Mike.

· Jonathan Whitaker-Trombone professor at the University of Alabama, Jon has also performed locally at Carnegie Hall, and with the New York Philharmonic.

· Burt Mason, Trombone- Burt is a native of Central Islip. Burt is a former Trombone Soloist with with New York Staff Band of the Salvation Army, and has recently performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Utah Symphony to name a few.

· Eri Miyashita, Piano- Eri has been the piano collaborator for all editions of DW & Friends, and she performs in a wide variety of venues.
