HEARTS Presents PortFest 2019

Port's Annual Celebration of Arts, Music and the Creative Spirit of our Community Sunday, May 19, 2019 Seeber Field, Weber Middle School

PortFest, HEARTS annual celebration of arts, music and the creative spirit of the Port Washington community, returns on Sunday, May 19, 2019, 12–5pm. Organized and presented by HEARTS, PortFest welcomes artists, musicians, dancers, poets and painters of all ages for this outdoor celebration of the arts, which has become a springtime tradition in Port Washington. The 8th annual PortFest event will be held at Weber Middle School's Seeber Field, surrounded by performance stages, art exhibition tents, arts and crafts stations, food trucks, and more. A full schedule of events and sponsors is available at pwportfest.org.

Parking and admission to PortFest are free to the public, with select craft activities requiring tickets. In addition to celebrating Port Washington's unique artistic, cultural, and creative talents, PortFest also raises funds for HEARTS's mission to support and enhance arts education in our public schools and community. All proceeds raised at PortFest go directly to future HEARTS grants which realize inspiring and engaging experiences for students across the Port Washington school district.

Performances at PortFest 2019 include a variety of student ensembles from Port Washington's elementary schools up through Schreiber High School, local bands (such as Dave Diamond Band, Stupid 7, and NRG), student performances from Port Washington's Bach 2 Rock, and selections from "Chicago" by the Schreiber Theater Company. Continuing a PortFest tradition, the Berest Dance Center is organizing an event-wide dance experience, with surprise dance breaks planned throughout the afternoon. A full schedule is available on the PortFest website.

Several local artists will display their work and offer demonstrations. Exhibiting artists include Sandy Jo Becker Hyman(photography), Patricia Bridges (pottery), Michelle Shain (watercolor painting), Barbara Silbert (painting), Marcos Sonconegui (acrylic painting), and Stan Strauss (photography).

Families can explore and enjoy several hands-on craft activities organized by each of Port Washington's public schools, ranging from making paper lanterns, to tie-dyeing clothing, and creating canvas spray art. Tickets are required for school-organized arts and craft activities.

In addition, several local eateries will make available their delicious food for a taste of Port Washington. Vendors include: Yummy Gyro, Delicacies, Mole Mole, Rosie's Grilled Cheese Truck, and two ice cream options in Ralph's and Mel's Ice Cream Truck.

Middle school age students can also engage in a PortFest-wide scavenger hunt, experiencing all the arts on display throughout the festival event. The scavenger hunt will begin at 1pm, and further details will be shared at the event.

PortFest is grateful to its many generous sponsors, which donate funds to help make PortFest possible and open to the community. A full list of sponsors is available here: pwportfest.org/partners-2019.html

PortFest is held rain or shine. In the event of rain, activities and performances are moved indoors in nearby Schreiber High School.

The full PortFest schedule, including additional information about the day-long event and all activities, is available at pwportfest.org.
