Here Are the Dumbest Places to Live on Long Island, Website Claims

Patch regrets to inform some Long Island residents they might not be as smart as they think they are, according to a study by RoadSnacks.

The infotainment website compiled a list of 169 cities and towns in New York with populations greater than 5,000 and ranked them from dumbest to smartest. Nearly three dozen Long Island communities made the list.

Two Long Island cities unfortunately cracked the top 10: Freeport was ranked the No. 8 dumbest city and Glen Cove was ranked No. 10.

Overall, it seems Long Island had a better turnout than the rest of the state. RoadSnacks named East Hills and North Hills the No. 1 and No. 3 smartest cities in New York, respectively.

How RoadSnacks determined the dumbest cities in New York:

• Percentage of the city’s population with less than a high school education (Age 25+)
• Percentage of high school dropouts (Ages 16-19)

The website also compared graduation rates of the entire population, not just the current rates for high schoolers. Check out RoadSnacks to see the full rankings.

The dumbest community in the entire state was found to be Monticello due to the village’s high rate of teenage high school dropouts.

Compared to Monticello’s 22.1 percent of adults without a high school diploma, only 1.4 percent of adults in East Hills never earned their diploma.

Of the rankings, RoadSnacks does say its “article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment. Don’t freak out.” RoadSnacks has also complied rankings of the snobbiest towns (seven of the top 10 on Long Island) in New York and the luckiest places (four of the top 10 on Long Island) in the state.
