Late Roslyn Highlands Fire Company Member Honored With Arch
Murtagh served as president/exempts secretary and was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War.

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, NY — Firefighters set up an American Flag arch Wednesday to honor a 52 year member of the Roslyn Highlands Fire Company.
The Hicksville and Jericho Volunteer Fire Departments set up an arch on the North Broadway overpass of the eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway, as did many other departments along the processional route to honor Bernard Murtagh Jr.
Murtagh also served as president/exempts secretary and was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War.

According to an obituary posted on the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home website, Bernard "Barney" Murtagh, Jr. of Roslyn Heights was married to the late Carol Murtagh for 45 years. He was the loving father of John (Tameka) and grandfather of Michael and Marcus.
He was a proud veteran who served overseas as a Seabee (construction battalion) during the Vietnam War. Murtagh also worked for the Roslyn Water District for three decades before retiring as a water service supervisor.
