If you’re looking to save money on energy and be kinder to the planet, mark your calendar for Thursday, Oct. 16. at 7 p.m.

That’s the date of the Residents For A More Beautiful Port Washington public meeting, which this year includes a forum on “Powering Up Your Home.” The event will be held at the Port Washington Public Library.

Marriele Robinson, from the non-profit Long Island Progressive Coalitions PowerUp Communities program, the keynote speaker, will present a five step process to a more energy efficient home including a free Home Energy Assessment, recommendations on insulation, weather stripping, caulking and more, plus a financing and rebate plan. Local resident Paul Merkelson will share his personal experiences going through the five step program.

The program aims to improve the quality of life in Port Washington. In addition to eliminating winter drafts and decreasing your utility bill, RFMBPW will receive a $200 donation towards improving quality of life in Port Washington for every resident that completes a retrofit through PowerUp Communities.
