Nassau County High School Students Show Talent
An exhibit of their juried art competition is on view at The Art Guild of Port Washington through Nov. 23

More than 60 works of art from the Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition are on view at The Art Guild of Port Washington, 200 Port Washington Blvd. in Manhasset.
The exhibit is free and open to the public on Saturday and Sunday between 1-5 p.m., and by appointment, through Nov. 23.
Sponsored by The ArtGuild, the exhibit features submissions from both public and private high school students throughout Nassau County.

Stephanie Navon-Jacobson, an award-winning artist and printmaker who teaches at St. John’s University and the Art League of Long Island, served as juror of awards. At the reception, Navon-Jacobson presented the winning artists with their awards and critiqued each piece. She also shared her ideas on what constitutes high level art with the packed gallery.
First place was awarded to Valley Stream Central junior Paola Parola for her white charcoal drawing “Self Portrait.” Second place went to senior Crisoula Lazaridis, a senior who is also from Valley Stream Central, for her sculpture, “The Scream.” Third place was awarded to Oceanside High School junior Sarah Cavanaugh for her acrylic painting “Feet.”

Honorable mentions were awarded to Lawrence Woodmere Academy senior Lexin Lin for her colored-pencil drawing “Christmas,” Our Lady of Mercy senior Christine Waldhof for her-colored pencil drawing “The Heart of Hawaii,” and The Wheatley School senior Priya Prasad for her acrylic painting “Shower Curtain.”

Trapani Art & Frame of Manhasset offered students a generous discount for professionally framed art and contributed gift certificates to the honorable mention winners.
