Nassau County Northwell Hospitals Ranked Top 5 Percent: Healthgrades
Hospitals across LI have received a distinction of patient safety and quality excellence.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Nassau County Northwell hospitals were recognized by Healthgrades as 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipients.
Plainview Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center were ranked in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide, according to Healthgrades.
Six Northwell Health hospitals have been awarded the distinction, including Northwell's Plainview Hospital and Northwell's Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Peter Silver, MD, MBA, senior vice president and chief quality officer at Northwell Health, said earning this award is a profound honor.
"This sustained recognition is a direct reflection of the extraordinary dedication and vigilance of every team member across our health system," he said. "They tirelessly champion a robust culture of hospital safety, continuously innovating and refining our practices to ensure the highest quality outcomes and the safest possible environment for the communities we are privileged to serve."

Plainview Hospital was named in the top five percent for patient safety for the fifth year in a row since 2022, and the LIJ Medical Center was ranked in the top five percent for the third year in a row, since 2024.
Northwell's Glen Cove Hospital and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset were ranked in the top ten percent. Outside of Nassau Cycles, Northwell's Huntington Hospital also received the award.
The Healthgrades award is based on 13 Patient Safety Indicators within "the Medicare inpatient population treated at the United States' nearly 4,500 hospitals from 2022-2024."
To earn a Patient Safety Excellence Award, as many hospitals on Long Island have, the hospital must show excellence in clinical quality.
Healthgrades states that the hospital must meet the following criteria:
- Must be in the top 80 percent of hospitals for clinical quality.
- Must have zero occurrence of PSI05 "retained surgical item or unretrieved device fragment count."
- Must have data for seven of eight core patient safety indicators.
- Must have at least 15 patients evaluated across three years and five patients within the last year for at least seven of the eight core patient safety indicators.A) is based on a review of 13 Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) within the Medicare inpatient population treated at the United States’s nearly 4,500 hospitals from 2022-2024.
