North Shore-LIJ Offers Employment Opportunities for Veterans

The health system has hired nearly 200 veterans to date this year.

The North Shore-LIJ Health System is putting a dedicated focus on helping military veterans transition back into civilian life. Already this year, the health system has hired nearly 200 veterans.

The health system’s talent acquisition and workforce readiness divisions continue to host workshops to help veterans better translate their military experience into a civilian career path.

“From Barracks to Business: Translating Military Skills to Career Success,” a guide produced by NS-LIJ, aims to help veterans navigate the job market. The health system also holds recruitment sessions geared specifically for veterans, including an October event in which about 60 veterans were interviewed for various positions throughout the health system.

Last year, the workforce readiness division also created a veteran college network, which includes several Long Island and New York City colleges, to help returning veterans find jobs.

“Our veterans have done so much for our country and we want to give back to them as much as we can,” said Cheryl Davidson, the health system’s director of workforce readiness.
