Port Washington Business Looks to Donate Generators to Those in Need
Home Run Electric is installing a generator for free after hearing one woman's story.

Did you know the price of a generator and its installation can cost up to $10,000?
Not everyone who needs a generator can afford it, and that’s something Port Washington contracting firm Home Run Electric is looking to change.
They want to provide generators to people who typically can’t afford one.

This idea started when a woman interested in purchasing a generator walked into Home Run Electric and asked the owner, Giuseppe ”Joe” DiBartolomeo, about generator pricing. Without knowing why the woman wanted a generator, DiBartolomeo and installation manager Harold Hicks stopped by her house.
They learned that the woman’s son was paralyzed from a car accident and she needed a generator for her son’s medical equipment. If the power at her house went out, a generator would keep her son’s medical equipment fully functioning.

After hearing the her story, DiBartolomeo and Hicks knew that purchasing a generator was necessary for her household, but it would be a huge financial strain.
“We were on the verge of tears on the way out,” DiBartolomeo said.
Leaving her home, Hicks decided he wanted to install the woman’s generator for free.
That was when DiBartolomeo and Hicks asked a few of their Home Run Electric guys to volunteer their time for a good cause.
Home Run Electric donated the gas, electric, labor, permit and the work for the woman’s generator installation. The installation will take place this Saturday.
“Hopefully, it makes a big difference to the lady,” DiBartolomeo said.
DiBartolomeo hopes this effort will expand to where Home Run Electric could eventually donate and install a generator to someone in need at no cost. “This will be the first time we are trying a project like this,” he said.
It’s going to be a slow process, but Home Run Electric is looking for people who have ideas or would be interested in helping the cause.
DiBartolomeo has thoughts of donating generators to a senior center or a children’s hospital: somewhere a generator could benefit many people at once. He is welcome to all ideas to officially kickstart this cause.
If a person wants to volunteer their time or knows someone who may be in need of a generator, he or she can email Home Run Electric at info@homerunelectric.com or call 516-708-1666.
