Question of The Day: The 'Gatsby' Film Location
Set for a Christmas release, the film was shot in Australia.
This week's Baz Luhrmann’s trailer is creating buzz, what with the Jay Z and Kanye track as a backdrop, and Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire leading the cast.
But while the music may offer a new twist on New York in the roaring 20s, and the cast contributies to the movie's hype, we noticed something else: the filming location. The film site IMDB lists Gatsby's filming location as Sydney, Austrailia, with no mention of Sands Point (said to be author F. Scott Fitzgerald's inspiration for East Egg) or Great Neck (West Egg).
Though the film, with its $120 million budget, was originally to be shot in New York, a tax break brought the filming to Australia, Luhhman's home turf, according to The Huffington Post.
