The 19-year-old owner of the backpack was arrested after authorities closed off the service road for two hours Tuesday, police say.

Nassau County’s Arson Bomb Squad responded to a report of a suspicious package in Roslyn Heights only to find a large amount of marijuana inside the backpack on Tuesday, police say.

According to authorities, the Long Island Expressway's North Service Road was closed for approximately two hours while the Arson Bomb Squad investigated the package, which was found around 4:30 p.m.

Once authorities deemed the backpack safe, they discovered the bag contained one pound of marijuana and one ounce of hashish, police say.

The owner of the backpack was placed under arrest following an investigation.

Jason Liarikos, 19, of Roslyn Heights, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana. He will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
