'Tennis Ball King' Kevin Has Watched His Friends Find Homes – Now He's Waiting For His Turn

After growing up at the Port Washington shelter, the 3-year-old terrier mix is looking for a forever family.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Three-year-old Kevin has watched his furry friends come and go from the shelter, all while he has been left behind, waiting for his forever family.

The terrier mix has grown up in the North Shore Animal League America, Port Washington's shelter, after he was rescued from Georgia in February 2024.

Known by shelter staff as the Port Washington shelter's "Tennis Ball King," Kevin loves nothing more than playing fetch, but he's also hoping for a fenced-in backyard where he can run around and a family of his own to love – and show off his skills.

He recently got to experience life outside the kennel walls when he stayed in a foster home. Shelter staff said Kevin had no issues or accidents in the house and showed his foster family just how loving he is.

"Kevin is a big, goofy blockhead with an endless love of tennis balls – he somehow manages to carry multiple in his mouth at once – a passion for fetch, and a heart that's just waiting to give itself completely to someone special," shelter staff said.

The perfect fit would be with an experienced adopter who understands large dogs, has an adults-only household, and a fenced-in yard. Shelter staff said he does well with other dogs his size, although a meet-and-greet would be required to make sure everyone is a good match.

More information on Kevin and how to adopt him can be found on his adoption profile.
