Nearly a dozen Port Washington residents at the Town of North Hempstead meeting on Tuesday night expressed concerns about a proposal from the town to create winter parking restrictions on Argyle Road and its surrounding blocks.
The idea for this proposal came from concerns that the Port Washington fire department and police district would have trouble getting their vehicles through the neighborhood in an emergency in winter when people sled on the Plandome County Club golf course. The plan would have had parking restrictions on Argyle Road, Kennworth Road, Pine Street, Fenimore Road, Amherst Road, Luquer Road, Willow Drive and Chelsea Drive.
Before residents spoke, Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio said she would be asking for a no vote from the board on this measure after hearing the residents’ concerns and wanting to come up with another option. Residents said that they felt the golf course should better police itself during the winter to avoid potential sledding accidents.
They added that they did not want to impede who could visit their houses or where they could park for three months over the winter from December 1 through March 31.
The board did not adopt this motion. DeGiorgio noted that she would be speaking with the local civic association and trying to come up with other options.
