Weber Middle School presents: "Fiddler on the Roof"

“A fiddler on the roof. Sounds crazy, no? But in our little village of Port Washington, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck….”

Old world traditions and a timeless message of the importance of family and community will be shared on the Weber stage March 13th-March 15th. Based on the stories of Tevye and his Daughters by Sholom Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof, is the story of the small town of Anatevka, Russia, where traditions run deep and the Jews and Russians live in a delicate balance. Throughout the show, Tevye (8th grader Gavin Miller) tries to marry of his daughters, while instilling a sense of tradition all while facing the realization of a changing world and the growing anti-semitism in Czarist Russia. With a score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, Fiddler on the Roof features many iconic musical theatre songs such as: “To Life,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Richman,” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.”

Weber Middle School’s production of Fiddler on the Roof is directed by Weber English teacher Mrs. Stacey Portmore-Davies, musically directed by Weber music teacher Mrs. Allison Friedman, and choreographed by Dance Arts Centre owner/teacher Bari Strachman. The show features over 130 talented students in the cast, pit orchestra, and stage crew! Performances will be held on Friday, March 13th at 7:30pm, Saturday, March 14th at 7:30, and Sunday, March 15th at 2:00pm in the Weber Middle School auditorium. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 for students (K-12) and senior citizens (65+), and children five and under are free!
