Young Environmental Steward Honored in Port Washington

A Sousa Elementary student was recognized for securing a composter for the school's garden.

A 5th grade student As Sousa Elementary School was recently recognized for doing his part in helping the environment.

Iann Fine was praised for his proactive efforts in securing a composter for the school’s garden. Fine wrote a letter to Sousa Elementary’s Home School Association in October sharing his thoughts about how composting helps the environment, and how it should be used in the school’s garden.

As a direct result of Iann’s letter, the Town of North Hempstead donated a composter, courtesy of the town’s Sustainability Office. Sousa’s Green Committee and Garden Committee will implement a school-wide composting awareness program at the school all year long.
