Ebbets Field Apartments Fire Injures 2 In Brooklyn, FDNY Says

Two people were injured in a two-alarm fire at the Montgomery Street apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, said the FDNY.

PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN -- Two people were injured when an enormous fire broke out in a beleaguered Brooklyn apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, according to the FDNY.

Flames erupted on the 12th floor of Ebbets Field Apartments complex at 220 Montgomery St. at about 12:05 p.m., said the FDNY.

An FDNY spokesperson confirmed two civilians were hurt in the fire, which it took firefighters about two hours to extinguish.

Ebbets Field tenants reported dangerous and unsanitary conditions in the massive building complex during a massive rally for tenants' rights in April.

At the time, resident Venice Ishibashi told Patch she waited months for her landlord to fix a three-foot hole in her balcony, caused by yet another blaze on New Year's Day.

The Office of Emergency Management warned New Yorkers on Twitter to avoid heavy smoke and traffic delays near Montgomery Street and Bedford Avenue.
