Artist Talk: Arlene Shechet at the Brooklyn Museum. Oct. 15, 2015

New York–based sculptor Arlene Shechet discusses her work with Catherine Morris, Sackler Family Curator.

New York-based sculptor Arlene Shecht will discuss her work with Catherine Morris, Sackler Family Curator for the Brooklyn Museum’s Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. Working primarily in ceramics, Shechet creates art that fuses apparent contradictions: ordered and messy, elegant and ugly, earnest and humorous. She simultaneously honors and subverts decorative arts-and-crafts traditions with visceral, eccentric, and surreal forms that vacillate between abstraction and figuration.
