Bonnie Youth Club & Spear Physical Therapy Host Unique Health Screening For Young Players

As we dig out from a record-breaking winter and warm up from frigid temperatures, The Bonnie Youth Club and Spear Physical Therapy set their minds on warmer days and recently hosted a unique pre-season screening process for young players.

The screening, which took place at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, examined the arms and shoulders of more than 50 Bonnie players between ages 9-18 looking for signs of any physical issues before they become serious. This is a unique program that is not widely offered in youth sports which looks out for the best of the Youth Club athletes.

Spear’s team of licensed physical therapists conducted comprehensive movement and performance screenings for the young athletes that included evidence-based assessments designed to enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and support long-term athletic development.

“Our primary concern is and always will be the health and wellbeing of our players,” said Jerry Katzke,Athletic Director, Bonnie Youth Club. “Having a partner like Spear Physical Therapy, who is an industry leader and shares our mission, provides an invaluable and vital service for our young athletes.”

“The screenings performed are vital to the proper health of these young athletes as they begin their athletic careers,” said Kevin Zheng, PT, DPT Clinical Director of Spear’s Greenpoint location. “It reinforcesour organizational goal and is invaluable for the well being of the young players.”

Spear Physical Therapy, established in 1999 practice with over 75 locations across the Tri-State area, has twice been named the nation’s top physical therapy.

The Bonnie Youth Club, who is celebrating their 27th Anniversary, will start their 2026 Spring season beginning with the Opening Day Parade on April 11 at the Parade Grounds.
