Crown Heights Gets New Comfort Food Resto With Jean-Georges Chef

The Benjamin is slated to open on Nostrand Avenue later this month, according to owners and reports.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Nostrand Avenue is getting a new modern southern food restaurant from a crew of elite New York restaurateurs and chefs, according to city records and reports.

Construction is underway at 698 Nostrand Ave. where later this month owners Laurence Glogau and Vincent Ferrentino Jr. plan to launch The Benjamin, an American comfort food eatery with a full bar, according to the restaurant's website and city records.

Executive chef Sean Underwood, whose resume includes Jean-Georges and Dirty French, will reign behind the range and is still crafting the menu, according to Eater. But he told Eater dishes will include small plates and a burger, and The Benjamen's Instagram page has teased fried chicken, corn bread and bacon.

The Benjamin's liquor license request is still pending, and owners told Eater they plan to serve cocktails, wine by the glass (provided by New York-based importer Polaner Selections), and will allow diners to bring their own wine for a $25 fee.
