Crown, Prospect Heights Wine Bars Named Among 'Best Of' In NYC

BROOKLYN, NY — Word on the grapevine is Crown Heights and Prospect Heights pair well with a nice glass of wine, according to a new ranking.

D'Antan in Crown Heights and LaLou in Prospect Heights made Thrillest's "The Wine Drinker’s Guide to New York’s Top 25 Wine Bars in Every Borough."

The rankings are full-bodied and complex. Thrillest's list includes traditional wine bars, a winery and restaurants scattered across the city.

Crown Heights' entrant D'Antan is an Italian restaurant specializing in Piedmontese fare. They boast more than 100 natural wines by the glass and a consistent selection of "skin contact," or orange wines — a white wine made from grapes with their skins intact, resulting in an orange hue.

Thrillest called D'Antan's vermouth selection the menu's "sleeper hit."

"Whether you’re checking out the draft vermouth-driven cocktails or sipping through the multiple styles of Italian vermouths as an aperitivo, you can’t miss with this casual, stylish little bar and restaurant," the ranking said.

LaLou in Prospect Heights is a wine bar focusing on natural biodynamic and small-production wines. Its menu has more than 150 bottles selected by award-winning sommelier Joe Campanale and Dave Foss.

The wine bar "just feels civilized," according to Thrillest.

"With loads of natural light and soft, neutral tones of grey, taupe, and natural wood throughout, it’s an escape from a mad world," the ranking states.

Other Brooklyn spots which made the list include Four Horsemen and Brooklyn Winery in Williamsburg, Red Hook Winery in — you guessed it — Red Hook, Tailfeather in Clinton Hill, June in Cobble Hill and Coast and Valley in Greenpoint.
