Famed Obama Portraits Tour Coming To Brooklyn Museum
The former president's and first lady's officials portraits will be shown starting Aug. 27, 2021.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Yes we can ... see the official portraits of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in Brooklyn, that is.
The two iconic National Portrait Gallery paintings will be displayed at the Brooklyn Museum from Aug. 27, 2021 to Oct. 24, 2021.
It will be the second stop on "The Obama Portraits Tour" — a five-city traveling exhibit showcasing Kehinde Wiley’s portrait of President Obama and Amy Sherald’s portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama.

The portraits were unveiled in February 2018 and quickly drew attention for their bold style that contrasted with more-conventional presidential portraits.
They've since been displayed at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery, which also commissioned the portraits.

But starting next year the portraits will embark on the tour. The Art Institute in Chicago, the Obamas' home city, will be the first stop. That museum will display the portraits from June 18, 2021 to Aug. 15, 2021 before they make their way to Brooklyn.
Stops after the Brooklyn Museum will be the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, High Museum of Art in Atlanta and Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
The tour will end in May 2022.
