Garbage Truck Driver Charged For Fatal Crown Heights Crash: Cops

Sanitation Department truck driver Aaron Gilchrist faces criminal charges after he hit a pedestrian in Crown Heights Thursday, police said.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN -- The driver of a city-owned garbage truck who ran over and killed a man Thursday morning now faces criminal charges, police said.

Aaron Gilchrist was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and failure to exercise due care after his Sanitation Department truck slammed into a 37-year-old man on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue, said police.

Gilchrist was driving west on Eastern Parkway when he made and tried to go north on Brooklyn Avenue, a southbound street, police said.

He rammed into a 37-year-old in the intersection with enough speed to inflict fatal head injuries on the pedestrian, according to police.
