Target First Saturdays. August 1, 2015. 5-11pm at the Brooklyn Museum.

Come celebrate Caribbean Heritage at the Brooklyn Museum. Join us for Music, Film, Dance, Carnival, Hands-on Art, Book Club and Performance.

Caribbean Heritage will be celebrated throughout the Museum from 5pm - 11pm. Events include BombaYo performing traditional Afro Puerto Rican bomba drumming (5pm); short films made by women of color who have connections to the Caribbean(5-9pm); the Braata Folk singers present Caribbean folk music(6pm); Selena Blake presents clips from her film Taboo Yardies (6pm); Poet Arielle John performs and hosts Pop-Up Carnival with costumes and music (6-9pm); Hands-On Art - explore carving, printing, and layering techniques in printmaking to create an island landscape (6:30-8:30pm); the film Papa Machete will be shown at 7pm.  A Q&A with the director follows; he film Ackee & Saltfish will be shown at 8pm and a talkback with the director follows; Naomi Jackson discusses her new novel at 830pm; Klash City Sound System and Supa Frendz perform a mash up of reggae, punk and hip-hop.(9pm)
