Last summer I was just moseying through the neighborhood on the way to the Brooklyn Public Library--enjoying the sunshine and the afternoon breeze, when a young Huffington Post reporter stopped me to inquire about the beauty products that I use. Had a great deal of fun telling her about the coconut oils and other varied natural products that are a part of my daily regimen; and the next thing you know --within a few days, in fact--I found myself the subject of a two-week feature on "ageless beauty" and natural skin care.
During the interview I forgot to mention that the glow she beheld was as much a result of daily meditation, prayer, and contemplation as natural makeup; secondly, I was not able to go into detail about having for a couple of decades obtained my natural cosmetics and health care products from a true classic ageless beauty, Muntu Law, of Prospect Heights' Namaskar-Bob Law's Health and Wellness Store. This dynamic cultural couple have served the community through Namaskar for over 25 years and delightfully enough, among the excellent products offered there are several under Muntu's own label including her green drink and apple cider vinegar drink.
Bob Law, a long-time media personality and community activist, has recorded an historical documentary on Black Radio, (Saying It Loud"--Radio Giving Voice to Black America), which is also available at Namaskar's. In addition, one can find products by myriad other Brooklyn and New York business-persons such as the ever-popular Black Rose hair and body oils, created by Black Rose Nelmes, one of the city's first natural hair stylists.

A former model, Muntu Law, a gorgeous septuagenarian, is a perfect role model for health, beauty, and wellness and has been featured internationally in Essence Magazine with other ageless beauties of color. Yet far more than health, beauty, and cultural offerings of Namaskar is the warm, welcoming spirit and the family-like aura of the store. It just feels like home there. And Muntu, like a wise elder, may sometimes lovingly chastise loyal patrons about not taking excellent care of their body temples; then she will quickly steer them to supplemental remedies and articles to guide them back onto a much-needed healing path. While they are browsing the store, they are often offered a cup of hot organic tea or other sampling of the store's health products. It is no wonder that this Prospect Heights business has a bevy of dedicated customers from around the world who continue to order by mail or online when they can no longer enjoy a personal visit to bask in the warm vibes of Namaskar which is the Hindu greeting, "The divinity in me acknowledges the divinity in you."
I tend to develop an affinity to neighborhood businesses who offer excellent, reasonably-priced products and knowledgeable expertise; but even more so due to the warm, welcoming, accommodating vibes of the owners and the staff. All of these are in bountiful abundance in Namaskar--the divinity in me indeed acknowledges, celebrates, uplifts the divinity in you.
