My nearest public swimming pool
As a boy growing up in Crown Heights
Was a half-hour away on the St. John's bus
On which you could count on fights.
The pool was favored by lots of kids
Who stayed in by the platoon,
So even then I knew to arrive
Before mid-afternoon.
