2 Injured After Seaplane Crashes In Queens: FDNY

The crash occurred Saturday near Riverside Drive and 158th Street in Queens, authorities said.

QUEENS, NY — Two people suffered minor injuries when a seaplane crashed in Queens on Saturday, according to authorities.

A spokesperson for the FDNY said the incident occurred near 154-59 Riverside Dr. in Beechhurst, and the agency received a call about the crash shortly before 9:30 a.m.

The two injured civilians were evaluated and received treatment at the scene, officials said.

According to a New York Daily News report, the seaplane was lifting off from the water off Riverside Drive and 158th Street around 9:20 a.m. when it hit a large wave and crashed back into the sea.

Authorities have not released the official cause of the crash.

Shortly before 10 a.m., the NYC Emergency Management Department warned that the major fire and police response to the crash could cause traffic delays, road closures and mass transit disruptions.

"Consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time," the agency said.
