-New Yorkers can support Alliance's vital food and nutrition programs – which serve tens of thousands of meals annually
(New York, N.Y.)—This April 30, when you head out to dinner in New York City, the occasion can be more than just a meal.
It will be a lifesaver.
That day, restaurants across New York City are participating in the annual Dining Out For Life event, where they’ve agreed to donate a portion of proceeds to support the vital food and nutrition programs at The Alliance for Positive Change.

“Just by dining out, New Yorkers can make a difference in someone’s life and help us to continue to serve healthy, nutritious meals to people in need,” says Sharen Duke, Alliance CEO & Executive Director. “At a time when more people are experiencing hardship when trying to put food on the table, Alliance is stepping up – but only with your help. All New Yorkers need to do is just dine at one of the generous restaurants that want to help people to feel better, live better, and do better.”
For nearly 30 years, Dining Out For Life has been a widely successful global initiative that supports local nonprofits providing essential services like the Alliance. Last year, more than 50 local HIV service organizations partnered with 2,400+ participating restaurants, 4,500+ volunteers, and more than 300,000 diners to raise an astonishing $4.28 million for people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States and Canada.

This is the third year that Alliance is participating in Dining Out For Life, and this year Alliance will designate funds raised to support its food and nutrition program - providing more than 40,000 hot meals and food pantry items each year and offering a lifeline to New Yorkers who often struggle to make ends meet. The program is core to Alliance’s network of support and the organization has been witnessing a greater demand for nutritious food.
Dining Out For Life is simple: Restaurants donate a generous percentage of their sales to a local HIV service organization, and the local HIV service organization fills participating restaurants with diners. All funds raised through a city’s Dining Out For Life event stay in that city to provide help and hope to people living with or impacted by HIV/AIDS. In New York City, the event will support the HIV/AIDS programs and services of Alliance for Positive Change, which served more than 7,425 New Yorkers – and reached more than 18,100 other City residents – in 2019.
During the last two New York events, Alliance and its restaurant partners raised $125,000. Alliance is seeking to enlist even more restaurants to the slate this Spring, and restaurants are encouraged to contact Ebony Ross at ebony@alliance.nyc or visit www.diningoutforlife.com/newyorkcity for more information.
