QUEENS, NY — A woman has been charged after setting three fires in Queens Monday night, including one that destroyed a Chinese restaurant, according to police.
Shaniqua Fort, 37, who is homeless, is facing attempted manslaughter, arson, assault, Petit larceny and criminal mischief charges in connection with the April 13 incident.
The fires occurred at a restaurant located at 60-92 Flushing Ave. in Maspeth beginning around 9 p.m. Then at the Maspeth Jewish Center located on Grand Avenue and a nearby funeral home.
The fire at the restaurant quickly spread to the second floor where a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman suffered injuries trying to escape the blaze.
One firefighter also suffered injuries and taken to a local hospital.
The woman was taken into custody shortly after setting the third fire, police said.
Fort is expected to be arraigned on Thursday. An investigation remains ongoing.
