3 People Seen Climbing Into Queens Manhole, 3rd Reported Incident In NYC

QUEENS, NY — Three people were caught on video climbing into a manhole in Queens marking the third reported incident of individuals climbing into the city's sewer system.

The incident in Queens happened on May 5 on 250th Avenue in Astoria.

Surveillance video from auto repair shop owner Aki Jakupovic shows the individuals with flashlights as they pry open the manhole cover and lower themselves in.

"I knew they were up to no good,” Jakupovic told NBC News.

“They just looked up, look down and continued like I wasn’t there. You know, I’ve seen a lot of crazy stuff in New York, but this was really something.”

The other two reported incidents also occurred in May in Williamsburg and Gravesend, police said.

At least seven people descended through a manhole near McDonald Avenue and Colin Place in Gravesend at about 11 p.m. on May 28, Patch previously reported.

Roughly three hours before the Gravesend group resurfaced, another eight people entered the sewer system through a manhole near Heyward Street and Bedford Avenue, about eight miles away

Authorities said the group climbed out shortly before 4 a.m. and left the area in a vehicle.

No arrests have been made in any of the incidents as of Wednesday afternoon.
