Suspected drunk driver flips car in Queens parkway crash, killing woman in backseat (nydailynews.com) — An early-morning crash on the Grand Central Parkway in Astoria overturned a car and fatally injured a 23-year-old woman thrown from the back seat, according to police. The 34-year-old driver, suspected of being drunk, was taken into custody as investigators work to confirm charges, a sobering reminder of overnight highway dangers for Queens drivers.
2. 13-year-old boy slashed in the face in Queens; NYPD searching for suspect (fox5ny.com) — A 13-year-old boy was slashed across the face during an argument Thursday evening outside 88-01 Queens Boulevard and is recovering in stable condition at a local hospital. Police say the attacker ran off, and they're asking Queens residents to share any information with Crime Stoppers to help identify the suspect.
3. NYC restaurant inspectors scored these among the worst for week of Sept. 21 (poughkeepsiejournal.com) — Several Queens restaurants, including spots on Northern Boulevard and Ditmars Boulevard, recently received some of the lowest health inspection scores in New York City, based on Sept. 21–25 checks. Inspectors cited issues like food handling, temperatures, and hygiene, which can trigger follow-up visits and lower letter grades. Residents can also review scores online or file complaints with the city.
4. NYC Doubles Grants to $10,000 for NYC artist grants (uticaphoenix.net) — Queens artists can now apply for city-funded grants up to $10,000, with applications handled by the New York Foundation for the Arts and a Queens deadline of November 17, 2026. The program doubles the previous cap, pairs funding with free materials access, and lays out borough-specific rules and timelines that Queens creatives should review soon to avoid missing out.
5. Aqueduct Racetrack Entries For Today: Get Ready for Thrilling Horse Racing Action (fsu.edu) — Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens is running a full card of thoroughbred races today, giving local fans a nearby option for live horse racing and wagering. With notable stakes like the Gotham and Bold Ruler on the schedule, the track is emphasizing strong fields, track conditions, and betting strategy for anyone heading out from around the borough.
