Queens Teacher Arrested For Hitting 9-Year-Old Student With Book

FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS — A Queens teacher was arrested Monday for hitting a student with a book, police said.

P.S. 253Q teacher Loretta Myers threw a book at the 9-year-old boy's face on Jan. 31, according to police. The NYPD took Myers, 48, into custody Monday on charges of assault, harassment and criminal weapon possession.

Myers taught science at the Far Rockaway elementary school, according to P.S. 253Q's faculty directory. The boy's mother tried remediation after the incident, according to police, then decided to press charges against the teacher.
