2 Firefighters Hurt In Richmond Hill E-Bike Shop Blaze: FDNY

A two-alarm fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, bringing 25 units and 106 firefighters to The Kings store in Richmond Hill.

QUEENS — Two firefighters were injured in a blaze that broke out at an e-bike shop in Richmond Hill Monday, the city’s fire department said.

A two-alarm fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, bringing 25 units and 106 firefighters to The Kings store at 102-44 Jamaica Ave, officials said.

Two firefighters were injured while trying to put out the flames at the two-story building, and they were taken to Jamaica Medical Center, FDNY said.

The fire was under control about 3:30 p.m., officials said.

Monday’s incident joins the hundreds of fires ignited citywide at locations with lithium-ion batteries, which are used to power e-bikes.

The FDNY encourages New Yorkers to avoid leaving batteries charging unattended or overnight when they’re sleeping. Officials also recommend steering clear of power or extension cords to charge lithium-ion batteries.

Fires ignited by lithium-ion batteries led to six fatalities in New York City in 2022, according to NBC.
