10-Year-Old Child, Adult Rescued After Becoming Stranded On Jet Ski Off Iron Pier Beach
A drone was utilized to locate the stranded pair, police say.
JAMESPORT, NY — A child, 10, and an adult were rescued after becoming stranded on a jet ski off Iron Pier Beach Sunday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the incident took place at about 4:50 p.m.; police received a 911 call about the adult and child, who were stranded on the jet ski about a mile northeast of the beach.
The police department's dive and rescue team was notified and responded to the scene, launching their marine rescue vessel, authorities said.

The Riverhead Police Department also deployed an M30T drone to assist with locating the stranded subjects, officials said.
The Jamesport Fire Department and Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps were also notified and responded, police said.

The dive and rescue team located the pair, secured them onboard the rescue vessel, and towed the jet ski back to shore, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said.
The operator of the jet ski was issued several summonses for safety equipment violations, police said.
