2 Burglars Caught in Aquebogue Marsh: Police

BREAKING: The men were apprehended after they fled on foot and a search by police and a K-9 unit ensued, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two burglars were caught red-handed after they broke into a building on Meeting House Creek Road in Aquebogue and a police search ensued, police said.

David Isaias Santos-Cua, 18, of Flanders, and Timoteo Perez Gonzales, 34, of Flanders, were arrested and charged with third degree burglary, a felony, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a call came in at 6:11 p.m. about two "suspicious" people at the location; the 911 caller said one of the pair had broken a window and entered the building.

Upon arrival, the two men fled from the building and headed west on foot along the rail road tracks, into a marsh area on the Crescent Duck Farm, police said.

Police, along with a K-9 unit, searched the marsh area before locating the two men, who were apprehended, police said.

A further K-9 search of the marsh and wooded area resulted in the recovery of equipment removed from the building on Meeting House Creek Road, police said.

The men were transported to Riverhead Police headquarters and were held for morning arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, police said.
