2 Men Stole Construction Materials At A Calverton Home: Police

They were caught when trying to drive away with the material, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two men were arrested after stealing construction material in Calverton Thursday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, on Sept. 14, a 911 call came in regarding two "suspicious subjects" removing construction material from a residential home under construction located on Alfred Avenue in Calverton.

Riverhead Police patrol units responded and conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on Alfred Avenue of a 1995 GMC suburban that was pulling a trailer with construction materials and leaving the area, police said.

Matthew S. Halliday of Manorville, 22, and Brian P. Schrang of Mount Sinai, 35, were arrested; both were charged with one count of fourth degree grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

The vehicle driven by Halliday was impounded and the stolen construction material recovered, police said.

Both men were processed and held for arraignment, police said.
