2 Men Stranded In Bay After Vessel Gets Stuck In Ice Formation

The two were rescued; they'd been trying to save oyster traps from damage from the ice, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Two men were rescued after their vessel became stuck in large ice formation in the bay, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place Wednesday at 4:04 p.m. on Paradise Point in Southold Bay when a report came in that Daniel Egan, 31, of Riverhead, and Daniel Harbes, of Mattituck, were stranded, stuck in the large ice formation.

Southold Town police responded to the location and were able to rescue Egan and Harbes from the stranded vessel, authorities said.

Egan had been attempting to salvage his oyster traps from damage incurred by large ice formations, police said.

Egan and Harbes were transported to Port of Egypt Marina, where they were further treated by Southold Fire Department personnel, police said.
