2018 Election Preview: New York's 1st Senate District

LONG ISLAND, NY — The 2018 midterm elections take place on Tuesday and New York voters have several important decisions to make.

Long Island residents will get a chance to vote for the candidates vying in the race for New York's 1st Senate District this Election Day.

Here's what you need to know before heading out to the polls this November:

Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 6

Polling Times: Polls will open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Candidates: Incumbent Kenneth LaValle (R) will be challenged by Greg Fischer (D).

District: New York State's 1st Senate District is made up of the five East End towns of Long Island and the eastern half of the Town of Brookhaven.
