3 Teens Escape Fire in Calverton
Teens were able to get out of the house they were in after it went on fire Saturday.
Calverton, NY- On Saturday January 17th at about 1:40 PM the Riverhead Fire Department received a call for a residential structure fire at 184 Twomey Ave in Calverton.
On arrival of Riverhead’s 2nd Assistant Chief advised he had a heavy fire load pushing through the roof in the front of the building. He immediately requested additional manpower and to start assistance from neighboring departments The Flanders FD was requested to the scene and Jamesport was requested to standby at the headquarters of Riverhead FD incase an additional call came in.
According to fire dept Public information officer Bill Sanok approximately 70 firefighters were on scene and no injuries were reported. However three teens were inside the house including the son of the homeowner when it started and managed to call 911 and get out on their own.

Firefighters remained on scene till around 3 p.m. The fire marshal was on scene also investigating the cause of the fire.
