8 Nabbed In DWI Crackdown Over Labor Day Weekend: Police
3 sobriety checkpoints were held in Riverhead over the holiday weekend, with 8 arrested, including a driver who hit a tree, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — Eight people were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Riverhead during enhanced Stop-DWI enforcement efforts over Labor Day weekend, police said.
According to Riverhead police, the amped-up patrols began on Friday and continued through Monday. The efforts included sobriety checkpoints held at three different times and locations on Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, police said.
Five were arrested at the checkpoints, two were arrested after they were seen with vehicle and traffic violations, and one person was arrested and charged after she crashed her vehicle into a utility pole, police said.

According to police, the eight arrested included:
- Jennifer Nappi, 53, of Aqebogue, who was arrested on Saturday and charged with DWI, police said.

- Tiffany Losee, 47, of Riverhead, who was arrested on Saturday and charged with DWI after the crash, police said.
- Lazaro S. Agopianis, 33, of Mattituck, was arrested Saturday at a checkpoint on Sound Avenue and West Lane and charged with aggravated DWI, police said.
- Salvatore G. Bartolo, 43, was also arrested at the checkpoint on Sound Avenue and West Lane on Saturday; he was charged with DWI, police said. Bartolo had his vehicle seized as per the Suffolk County law, for having a prior conviction for DWI in Florida, police said.
- Edgar Vasquez-Herrerra, 31, of Riverhead, was arrested at a checkpoint on East Main Street, west of Elton Street, in Riverhead Saturday and charged with DWI, police said.
- Jose Chamale Puluc, 24, of Mattituck, was arrested Sunday at the East Main Street checkpoint and charged with DWI, police said.
- Alexander W. Repenning, 28, of East Hampton, was arrested Sunday at a Peconic Avenue checkpoint and charged with DWI, police said.
- Erik B. Vigfusson, 40, of Port Jefferson was arrested by a patrol officer Monday and charged with DWI, police said.
All were processed at Riverhead police headquarters and held until morning arraignment, police said.
The Riverhead Police Department will continue their DWI enforcement, with increased enforcement expected during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons, police said.
