Motorcyclist Dies In Riverhead Crash: PD

RIVERHEAD, NY — A motorcyclist died in a Riverhead crash Tuesday morning, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the crash took place at about 7:57 a.m. in the northbound lane of Cross River Drive at Union Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the driver of a 2022 CFMOTO motorcycle traveling northbound on Cross River Drive struck a pickup truck that was making a left turn onto Cross River Drive from Union Avenue, police said.

The operator of the motorcycle, Ismael Santiago Basantez - Ramon, 22, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc., where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc., and was treated, then released, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division and the New York State Police Department's accident reconstruction team responded to the scene to conduct a further investigation, police said.

At this time, the crash appears to be noncriminal, police said.

The roadway was closed Tuesday morning for the investigation and later reopened, police said.
