RIVERHEAD, NY — The first Alive on 25 of the season in downtown Riverhead has been postponed, officials said.

After consultation with event organizer, Diane Tucci of Main Street Agency, the Riverhead town board and Riverhead Police Chief Ed Frost, "due to the widespread impacts of the 4th of July storm and ensuing rain, the Alive on 25 Summer Block Party event previously scheduled for July 9 has been postponed," an announcement from the town read.

The postponement was decided upon to give residents, vendors, and town staff extra time to handle storm recovery and allow utility crews to restore power to all residents, officials said.

"Alive on 25 is about lifting up our community, and hosting a great event for all to enjoy," said Diane Tucci of Main Street Agency. "Even though Thursday’s forecast looks better, the days of setup we need are right now and currently the rain is relentless! We have had conversations with several of our participants already who are stranded in their houses or dealing with property damage, and some already are not able to attend because of this. To have a successful event, we need a good turnout for our vendors, as well."

She added: "Everybody who participates spends a lot of time preparing for an event like this, and we want to make sure that it is under the right and safe circumstances. While it's extremely disappointing, we know giving people adequate notice is the best thing we can do."

Supervisor Jerry Halpin also reflected: "I’m looking forward to attending the rescheduled date of Alive on 25 and hope to announce that future date very soon.”

Councilwoman Joann Waski discussed the decision. "As disappointed as I am to postpone this great event, our focus needs to be concentrated on the residents still trying to recover from the storm."

Tucci said on social media that a date in September is under consideration.

"The town board looks forward to the return of Alive on 25 on August 6, 2026 as scheduled," officials said.
