Authorities say the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the Old Country Road store and are offering a cash reward for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest.
2. Riverhead board delays SRO deal with school district over unresolved cost questions (riverheadlocal.com) — Riverhead parents and taxpayers should know the Town Board has delayed renewing its agreement with the Riverhead Central School District for two school resource officers, keeping cost‑sharing questions unresolved. Officers remain in the high school and middle school while officials debate who should pay, how overtime is controlled, and whether town taxpayers outside the district should help fund school security long‑term.
3. 🚗🐾 Battle of the Car Clubs Brings 'Fur & Fury' to Riverhead for a Cause (town.news) — Riverhead residents can rev up for a good cause when the Battle of the Car Clubs: Fur & Fury Car Show rolls into Riverhead PetSmart on Sunday, September 27. The family‑friendly event will feature show cars, music, food, raffles, vendors and adoptable animals, with proceeds supporting North Fork Country Kids Animal Rescue's work helping local pets find homes.
4. Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue is back in full production almost two years after bird flu outbreak (timesreview.com) — Crescent Duck Farm in nearby Aquebogue is back in full production after rebuilding its flock from a devastating 2025 bird flu outbreak, and Riverhead businesses helped it survive. Local spots like Jerry and the Mermaid and Miloski's Poultry Farm backed the farm by buying product and raising ducks, helping preserve Long Island's last commercial duck operation for future generations.
5. Homeless man in Riverhead charged in multiple Calverton larcenies (timesreview.com) — Riverhead police say a homeless man has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after a series of alleged vehicle and garage thefts near Deep Hole Road and North Woods Road in Calverton. Investigators, assisted by a Riverhead K9 unit, recovered suspected stolen items and are asking any additional victims or witnesses to contact the Riverhead Town Police Department confidentially.
