Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Police Seek Man Accused of Stealing $1,094 in Nike Footwear From Riverhead Store (newsbreak.com) — Riverhead police are asking for your help identifying a man accused of stealing more than $1,000 in Nike footwear from the Nike store on West Main Street. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers has released a surveillance image and is offering a cash reward for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest in the July 4 grand larceny case.
2. Riverhead clerk reconsiders Town Board correspondence policy (riverheadlocal.com) — Riverhead residents should know that Town Clerk James Wooten is rethinking whether letters from the public will continue to be published in Town Board agenda packets, after controversy over a council member's Facebook post about 9/11 survivor Kevin Shea. Local writers from Riverhead and nearby communities say withholding their letters limits transparency and free speech, while Wooten argues social media disputes don't belong in official records and may end the correspondence feature altogether.
3. How to report damage from massive nor'easter (timesreview.com) — Riverhead residents are being asked to report serious home or business damage from last weekend's nor'easter using a new state online form that could help unlock federal assistance. Town officials say only substantial flooding or major losses qualify, and note the storm downed more than 40 trees and temporarily closed Mugs on Main after basement flooding.
4. Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue is back in full production almost two years after bird flu outbreak (northforker.com) — Riverhead-area readers can once again enjoy Crescent Duck Farm products, as the Aquebogue farm has returned to full production nearly two years after bird flu forced it to euthanize its flock and lay off most workers. Owner Doug Corwin credits community support, including purchases from Riverhead's Jerry and the Mermaid and Calverton's Miloski's Poultry Farm, with helping rebuild jobs, strengthen biosecurity, and preserve Long Island's last commercial duck farm.
5. North Fork house of the week and real estate transfers: Sept. 30, 2026 (timesreview.com) — Riverhead homebuyers can check out a featured four-bedroom "chateau" on a quiet cul-de-sac listed at $699,000, plus see several recent Riverhead property sales and prices. The detailed transfer list also shows what homes and commercial properties fetched in nearby North Fork communities.
