• Blotter: Police arrested 10 last week (timesreview.com) — Riverhead Town police reported 10 arrests between Sept. 27 and Oct. 3, including alleged drunken driving, petit larceny, drug possession, criminal contempt and harassment involving several Riverhead residents. All those named are presumed innocent, and the charges may later be reduced, withdrawn, or result in acquittal.
• How local munis are benefitting from their high-profile neighbors' U.S. Opens (newsbreak.com) — Riverhead's Indian Island County golf course is set to receive specialized agronomy consulting and high-tech tools from the USGA's Green Section, aiming to improve greens and overall playing conditions at low cost. The support, funded through the recent U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, will help Suffolk County parks staff tackle maintenance challenges and enhance the experience for local public golfers over the next few years.
• Rich Schaffer secures Suffolk County Dem Chair, defeats Southold leader Kathryn Casey Quigley (timesreview.com) — Suffolk County Democratic Chair Rich Schaffer has secured another term after defeating challenger and Southold leader Kathryn Casey Quigley, a result that shapes how Democrats organize for November. Riverhead Democratic Committee chair Laura Jens-Smith attended the packed Huntington meeting and says the big test now is unifying energized Democrats across the county for upcoming congressional and state legislative races.
