LONG ISLAND, NY —A new "Long Island Express" bus will help ease the commute for residents heading west, officials said.
On Monday, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced the launch of the "Long Island Express" – a new peak service provided by Suffolk County Transit that will serve riders from Riverhead to Hicksville.
The route will run on weekdays during peak periods effective on Monday, October 26, he said.
"Suffolk County has the most lane miles and most registered drivers out of any county in New York, and we must do all we can to make our roads safer and alleviate congestion all while providing sensible and affordable alternative transit options to our residents," Romaine said. "With the Long Island Express, motorists now have another sensible option to commute from the East End to the west in a simple and convenient manner."
Long Island Express service will originate during morning peak hours at the Riverhead Long Island Rail Road station and make limited stops utilizing the Long Island Expressway HOV lane, with the route's destination being the Hicksville Long Island Rail Road station. Eastbound trips in the afternoons will originate from Hicksville and conclude in Riverhead to meet commuter demands.
