Armed Robbery With Sword, Knife, 1 Suspect Apprehended: Police

BREAKING: Two men using a sword and knife stole a backpack from the victim and fled, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — The victim of an armed robbery in Riverhead Monday said two suspects that stole his backpack had a sword and a knife, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place Monday at 2:21 p.m. in a wooded area north of the railroad tracks, just west of Osborne Avenue.

Police responded to Sweezy Avenue in Riverhead after receiving a call from a victim of an armed robbery, authorities said.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that two Hispanic men armed with a knife and a sword robbed the victim of his backpack, police said. The suspects fled on foot, with the victim chasing them, police said.

After a search of the area by Riverhead Police patrol units, a man was located who was identified by the victim as one of the suspects, police said.

Eddy Rodriguez, 27, of Riverhead was arrested and charged with first degree robbery, a felony, police said. He was transported to Riverhead Police headquarters to be processed, police said.
