Athens Grill Owner Explains Eatery's New Name

When the restaurant is reborn, the Athens Grill will be called Mazi.

The morning after a successful fundraiser at the Suffolk Theater to help rebuild the Athens Grill, which was destroyed last month in a fire, owner John Mantzopoulos explained the meaning behind the new name the restaurant will have when it reopens sometime in 2014.

"Thank you to all that came out to Suffolk Theater for last night's fundraiser," he wrote on Facebook. "Last night we unveiled our new name, Mazi. We decided to go with this name for a very important reason. Mazi, under the Greek definition, means 'together.' Together, the help of many from the community and beyond is helping us put our restaurant back."

He added, "We recently discovered that there are many that would like us to stay on Main Street, and that is a very warm feeling, because we want to be back again. Thank you to all for coming out and supporting us."
