Auto Dealer Tells Judge Chrysler Facility Requirement Was Too Much

A Riverhead car dealer said in court on Monday that Chrysler's requirement that Eagle Auto Mall build a separate unit for its Jeeps and Chrysler vehicles was too much.

According to a Newsday article, Chrysler terminated a contract with Eagle Auto Mall – run by Mark Calisi – in 2009 as it was downsizing throughout the country, but was later required to reinstate Eagle Auto Mall's services. One of the contractual obligations in getting Chrysler, according to Newsday, was that Eagle Auto Mall build a new structure specifically for their products, a reported cost of $4 million to $5 million.

Newsday states that a U.S. District Court proceeding on Monday focused on whether such a request was considered "customary and usual;" both sides are due back in court on Jan. 4.
