"Mrs. Coverdale's leadership and commitment to service have made a profound difference in our community," said Doroski. "Through her work with the Family Community Life Center and decades of community involvement, she has helped create opportunities and support for countless residents."

A graduate of Hunter College and Harvard Business School, Coverdale has brought professional expertise to a lifelong commitment to public service. She serves on the board of the Long Island Housing Partnership and the board of trustees of Suffolk County Community College, where she currently serves as chair, a role she has held since her 2017 appointment by former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

She previously served on the Suffolk County Workforce Development Board and the Riverhead Senior Citizen Advisory Council, Doroski noted.

Through her decades of service at the First Baptist Church of Riverhead, Coverdale led youth enrichment and mentoring programs, organized the Africa '93 international youth initiative, championed community health efforts including Project C.A.R.E., which introduced telehealth services to eastern Suffolk County, and helped secure federal funding for residents impacted by the Horton Avenue floods, he said.

"The Coverdales' vision and dedication have helped strengthen our community in ways that will benefit generations to come. It is an honor to recognize her as the First Legislative District's 2026 Woman of Distinction," he said.

Coverdale and her husband, Reverend Charles A. Coverdale, have two adult children, 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
